"Krzysztof is a Pole, Varga is a Hungarian. Together they acquaint us with the myths and realities of the Magyar history, show us around the backstreets and promenades of Budapest, sink into understanding the conscience and monuments of Hungarians, as well as their nostalgia. Painful for Magyars, fascinating for Poles, Krzysztof Varga’s essay about traumas and heroism of the nation, so close to Poles, yet still little known for them, is a way to understand Hungarians, whom we love, however do not know! I highly recommend, although there are some things I would argue about more with Krzysztof than with Varga. I wish I could wander with the Author of these lovely stories around Buda and Pest, visiting the bars and taverns he described so tastily”.
Tadeusz Olszański

„Poles declare that they love Hungarians, but when asked what is the reason of this affection, a reasonable answer can be heard as rarely as there is rain in Sudan. In today’s Poland, people do not know the history of Magyars more than that of Basque, although for hundreds of years the Republic of Poland bordered on the Crown of Saint Stephen, which we seem to forget about. Krzysztof Varga restores the memory about Hungarians to us, which in itself is praiseworthy, but the way he does this is even more glorious. „Gulasz z turula” is not an ordinary historical essay, but quarreling with Magyarness, which the author, a Hungarian by descent, carries in himself. He also carries Polishness in himself, so he can see more, reach deeper, feel more painfully, as he has a different perspective of vision than a Magyar whose both parents were Magyars. An excellent book indeed.“

„Boys grow up. A prose writer from Mokotów district discovers Hungary, a country of his ancestors on his father’s side. A personal guide to the intricacies of culture, history and madness of Magyars in the 20th century”.
Aleksander Kaczorowski, „Rzecz o książkach”

„A very personal collection of essays about past and contemporary Hungarian issues, as well as an attempt to unveil Author’s Magyar roots. An unpretentious, light and intelligent prose”.
Dariusz Nowacki, „Rzecz o książkach”
